Job brief
Manager on Duty will perform the daily dockside operations of Art & Water Taxi’s seasonal water taxi business on the Toronto waterfront. The Manager on Duty is the first point of contact with staff, dock staff, captains and prospective passengers of Art & Water Taxi and will comport themselves in a professional and friendly manner.
The specific duties of the Manager on Duty include: the daily schedule, staffing and coordination of team members, dock staff and captains alike, promoting and selling the services of Art & Water Taxi, controlling passenger flows, maintaining the dockside workspace, assisting passengers in distress while dockside, securing the property of Art & Water Taxi.
Responsibilities
With reference to the Art & Water Taxi Dockside Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensure all dockside functions are carried out in a safe, responsible, cost-effective way
Promote and sell the services of Art & Water Taxi to the public-at-large
Receive payment for services provided by Art & Water Taxi
Manage cash and electronic payment
Embark/disembark passengers and cargo onto/off of Art & Water Taxi vessels
Maintain a tidy and well organised work area
Ensure the security of all Art & Water Taxi property
Provide assistance to passengers/members of the public in distress on/in the vicinity of the dock
Participate in training, scheduled or otherwise, as directed by management
Reporting
The Dock Staff report to the Operations Manager of Art & Water Taxi. Daily work functions are supervised by the Dockmaster/Manager-on-Duty on shift.
Requirements and skills
Proven work experience in a customer-facing role
Polite, friendly and considerate demeanour
Collaborative and able to function as a member of a team
Understanding of business and financial practices including cash management
Flexible and responsive to the needs of the business
Excellent communication skills in English. Proficiency in other languages is considered an asset
Excellent personal time management skills
Displays initiative and takes responsibility
Must be able to lift 45 lbs (21 kg)
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to work regardless of weather conditions
Marine Basic First Aid (including CPR) as a minimum standard.
